Anatoly Shapovalov was born in 1943 in Kirovograd, a rural city in Southern Ukraine. He started to draw early in life and liked to make sketches of picturesque vicinities of his city. After graduating from high school, he attended Kiev State Academy of Fine Art. After graduating in 1976, he became a member of the prestigious Union of Ukrainian Artists. Although he is gifted in painting scenes of landscapes, and still-life, his main area of interest is painting ballet scenes. His works can be found in private collections and galleries in Germany, Great Britain and the United States.
