Grigori Goncharov was born in the town of Rossosh in the Voronezh Region of Russia. He first studied with Aleksei Buchkuri, a pupil of Ilya Repin, who headed a studio in Voronezh before the war. He began exhibiting his works in 1940. During World War II, he served in the Russian army, but continued to paint documenting the war and painting portraits of soldiers and officers. After the war, he returned to Voronezh. His paintings are remarkable for their sincerity and heartfelt spirit. In 1950, he became a member of the Artist’s Union of the USSR. During this period, he exhibited in numerous exhibitions. Goncharov died in 2001. His paintings may be found in the Kramskoi Art Museum in Voronezh and numerous private collection in Russia, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, former Yugoslavia, Portugal, Japan and the United States.
